The drive from Denver to Aspen is one of the most iconic routes in the American West. You leave the Mile High City, climb through the jagged peaks of the Rockies, and eventually descend into the Roaring Fork Valley. It is breathtaking. But if you are behind the wheel of a Tesla Model 3 rental in the dead of January, that beauty often comes with a side of "range anxiety."

The distance from downtown Denver to Aspen via I-70 and Highway 82 is approximately 160 to 190 miles, depending on your specific route and detours. A Tesla Model 3 Long Range has an EPA-rated range of roughly 330 miles. On paper, you have plenty of room.

However, winter math is different.

  1. The 30% Winter Penalty: Your 330-mile range immediately drops to about 230 miles.

It is located right off I-70 and is roughly 40 miles from Aspen. A quick 10-minute "splash and dash" here ensures you have plenty of energy for the final leg up Highway 82.

Is There a Supercharger in Aspen for My Rental Tesla?

Yes. You don't have to worry about being "stranded" once you reach your destination. There is a high-speed Tesla Supercharger located at the St. Regis Aspen Resort.

  • Location: 315 East Dean Street (Valet parking area).
  • Stalls: 8 Supercharger stalls available 24/7.
  • Speed: Up to 150kW.

While the St. Regis is the only official "Supercharger" in Aspen proper, the town is incredibly EV-friendly. There are dozens of Level 2 "Destination Chargers" at hotels like The Little Nell, Hotel Jerome, and the Limelight. Additionally, the City of Aspen maintains several public charging stations in the Rio Grande Parking Plaza.
