Real-world data.
Real AI breakthroughs.
Every mile driven in our fleet generates high-quality, multi-camera driving data. Our proprietary hardware captures, processes, and uploads it to the cloud — turning every trip into training data that accelerates autonomous driving.

Our proprietary data collection device
Installed in every vehicle in our fleet, our custom hardware device integrates directly with the Tesla's onboard camera system. It captures, processes, and streams multi-camera video feeds to our secure cloud infrastructure in real time.
Unlike Tesla's own data collection — which stays within Tesla's ecosystem — our device operates independently, giving us full ownership and control of the captured data. This means we can license, package, and sell this data to third parties training autonomous driving models.
Direct camera tap — Connects to all 8 Tesla cameras without modifying vehicle software
Edge processing — On-device compression and metadata extraction before upload
LTE/5G uplink — Continuous cloud upload via cellular with local buffering for dead zones
GPS + IMU tagging — Every frame is geo-tagged with precise location and motion data
Tamper-resistant — Hardened enclosure, secure boot, encrypted storage
Device technical specifications
Purpose-built hardware designed for continuous, high-bandwidth data collection from Tesla's onboard camera system.
Hardware
ARM-based SoC with dedicated video encoder. 64GB onboard flash for buffering. Ruggedized aluminum enclosure rated for automotive temperature range (-40°C to 85°C).
Connectivity
Dual-SIM LTE/5G modem with carrier failover. Wi-Fi 6 for high-speed bulk transfers when parked. GPS + GLONASS + Galileo for sub-meter positioning accuracy.
Video capture
8 synchronized camera streams at up to 36fps. H.265 hardware encoding with configurable bitrate. Supports 1280x960 per camera with lossless metadata sidecar.
Power
Powered directly from the vehicle's 12V system with under 5W idle draw. Automatic sleep/wake tied to vehicle state. Internal supercapacitor for graceful shutdown.
Security
Secure boot chain with hardware root of trust. AES-256 encrypted storage and TLS 1.3 for all cloud communication. Tamper detection with automatic data wipe.
Cloud integration
Real-time upload to AWS S3 with intelligent bandwidth management. Automatic retry with local buffering. Remote OTA firmware updates and configuration changes.
Full 360° camera coverage
Our device captures feeds from every camera on the Tesla Model 3, providing complete surround-view data for AI training and vehicle security.
Front wide-angle
Main forward-facing camera — 150° field of view capturing road conditions, traffic, signage, and obstacles
Front narrow
Long-range telephoto for highway driving, reading signs at distance, and detecting far-ahead hazards
Front pillar (left & right)
Side-forward cameras covering blind spots, cross-traffic, and intersection visibility
Side repeater (left & right)
Mounted on fenders — lane-change monitoring, adjacent vehicle tracking, and parking maneuvers
Rear camera
Backward-facing view for reverse driving, rear collision events, and following-vehicle distance
Cabin camera
Interior monitoring for driver attentiveness, occupant safety verification, and incident documentation
Annotated video — Multi-camera driving footage with lane, object, and event labels
Edge cases — Rare driving scenarios (construction zones, jaywalkers, unusual weather)
Urban + highway mix — San Francisco city driving plus California highway corridors
Sensor fusion ready — Camera data paired with GPS, speed, steering, and acceleration telemetry
Data for AI training
We sell high-quality, real-world driving data to companies building the next generation of autonomous driving technology. Our data is collected from actual San Francisco streets and California highways — some of the most complex and diverse driving environments in the world.
Every dataset includes synchronized multi-camera video, GPS coordinates, vehicle telemetry, and timestamped event markers. Data is anonymized, CCPA-compliant, and available in industry-standard formats compatible with major ML frameworks.
The driving data ecosystem
Leading companies are investing billions in real-world driving data to train autonomous systems. Frontier Tesla is part of this growing ecosystem — collecting data where others can't.
Scale AI
Provides labeled training data for autonomous vehicle companies. Valued at $13.8B.
Nexar
Dashcam network that crowdsources road data and sells it to mapping and AV companies.
Comma.ai
Aftermarket self-driving kit (comma 3) that collects driving data from its user base.
Wejo / Palantir
Connected vehicle data platform aggregating OEM telematics data for analytics and resale.
Otonomo
Vehicle data marketplace connecting automakers with data consumers across industries.
Mobileye (Intel)
Crowdsources HD mapping data from vehicles equipped with Mobileye ADAS chips.
Full Self-Drive incentive program
Every vehicle in our fleet is equipped with Tesla Full Self-Drive (Supervised). Renters who keep FSD engaged during their trip generate higher-quality training data and experience reduced vehicle wear. That's why we incentivize FSD usage.
- ✓FSD usage is monitored via our onboard device and Tesla telemetry
- ✓Renters who maintain high FSD engagement may qualify for preferred rates
- ✓Manual-only driving may incur a supplemental charge reflecting increased wear
- ✓FSD usage stats are visible to renters in their dashboard after the trip
Lower wear & tear — FSD drives more smoothly, reducing brake and tire wear
Better data quality — FSD-engaged trips produce richer training data with decision context
Safer driving — FSD monitors surroundings constantly, reducing accident risk
Transparent tracking — Renters see their FSD engagement percentage post-trip
Renter verification & safety
We take vehicle security and renter accountability seriously. Every renter goes through a multi-step verification process before they can access the vehicle.
ID verification & background check
All renters must upload a valid driver's license photo. We verify identity through automated document verification and run a background check to ensure a clean driving record. Flagged or unverifiable applicants are not approved.
Insurance required
Renters must provide proof of valid personal auto insurance that covers rental vehicles, or purchase a coverage plan through us at checkout. We verify insurance documentation before releasing the vehicle. No exceptions.
Credit card compliance
A valid credit card is required for booking and security deposit. We verify the card meets rental industry requirements and check for sufficient coverage. Debit cards and prepaid cards are not accepted for the security deposit.
